The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows signs of wear. The soldier of the tag served in the 8.MG.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 278. This regiment was formed in september 1939 and was part of the 95.Infanterie-Division. With this division the unit saw their first combat during the invasion of France in May 1940. After France the division was on leave in Germany until Februari 1941. After that it was moved to (North) France again where it stayed untill early June and then moved to Poland to prepare for Operation Barbarossa. It fought in Ukraine, Kiew and then in Brjansk, Kursk, Rshew, Brjansk and Witebsk where, in June 1944, the division and her unit where destroyed. Remnants of the division where used in September 1944 to form a new 95.Infanterie-Division. It was put into action in Tauroggen, Memel, Samland and Pillau.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldiers bloodtype.
