Very nice zinc dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' in used, but excellent condition.
The dog tag shows normal signs of wear. The regiment was formed in August 1939 and was part of the 87.Infanterie-Division. This division was put into action during the invasion of Belgium in May 1940 and then France. From June 1941 the division and her units participated in the invasion of Russia. It fought in areas like Bialystock, Gshatsk, Rshew, Newel, Melish and later Kurland.
Infanterie Regiment 187 was renamed into Grenadier Regiment 187 in October 1942.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
Nice tag of an unit with a rich history.
