Very nice Wehrmacht infanterie tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 7.Kompanie II.Bataillon Infanterie Regiment 220. This regiment was formed in August 1939 in Rendsburg and was part of the 58.Infanterie-Division. The regiment saw its first action during the invasion of France in May 1940. In January 1940 the II.Bataillon (5-8.Kompanie) was used to form I.Bataillon Infanterie Regiment 502 which was part of the 290.Infanterie-Division. This division saw its first combat during the invasion of Russia and fought in areas like Ilmensee, Demjasnk, Newel and later Kurland.
A new II.Bataillon of Infanterie Regiment 220 was build straight after. As part of the 58.Inf.-Div. it saw combat during the invasion of France and from june 1941 on it operated in Russia were it fought in areas like Leningrad, Oranienbaum, Demjansk, Newel and later in Narwa, Estonia.
The 'AB' on the back on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
