Very nice and uncommon shaped Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 7.gemischte Schützen Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 317. This regiment was formed in late August 1939 and was part of the 211.Infanterie-Division. With this division it saw its first combat during the invasion of Belgium that took place on the 10th of May 1940. It pushed all the way through to the French coast.
The division and her units wre stationed on the French coast, in the Bretagne area, until Janaury 1942 when it moved to the east to fight the Russians. It operated in areas like Brjansk, Spass-Demjansk, Witebsk and Kowel.
The regiment was renamed into Grenadier Regiment 317 in October 1942.
The 'B' on one part of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
The shape of the tag is a bit more round then the 'textbook' tags and therefor a bit more uncommon.
