Very nice aluminium dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' from a soldier who served in the 6.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 209.
The tag shows overall normal signs of wear. Infanterie Regiment 209 was formed in August 1939 and was part of the 58.Infanterie-Division. It saw it's first combat on the 10th of May 1940 during the invasion of France by crossing the Luxembourg border. After France the regiment moved to Hasselt, Belgium. In April 1941 it began preparing for the invasion of Russia. It saw it's first combat in the east on the 24th of June 1941. The division and her regiments fought in areas like Leningrad, Wolchow, Oranienbaum, Demjansk and Newel.
