Nice Infanterie Sturmabzeichen in Silber award document awarded to Grenadier Konrad Schmidt.
The document shows overall, normal signs of wear. The Infanterie Sturmabzeichen was awarded on 30.5.1944. Konrad served in the 5.Kompanie Grenadier Regiment 694. This regiment was formed in December 1940 from different regiments as Infanterie Regiment 694 and was part of the 340.Infanterie-Division. With this division the regiment saw combat on the Russian front in areas like Woronesch and westlich von Kursk. In November 1943 the Regiment was disbanned, but newly formed in Februari 1944 and still part of the 340.Volks Grenadier Division. The regiment was destroyed in July 1944 in Nothern Ukrain. It was newly formed again in September from Grenadier Regiment 1147. Again it was part of the 340.Volks-Grenadier-Division. It was used as Reserve unit during the start of the Ardennes Offensive in Raum Hallschlag - Stadtkyll. In Januari 1945 it fought in the Bastogne area where it suffered heavy losses and only 175 men survived. Later it also fought in the Südeifel and was finally destroyed in Remagen.
