6.Kp./Inf.Rgt.7 Erkennungsmarke

The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 6.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 7. Originally this regiment dated back even before 1900. During the Reichswehr period it was part of the 100.000 men strong army and known as the 7. (Preußisches) Infanterie-Regiment. In 1935 the regiment became Infanterie Regiment 7 and was part of the 8.Infanterie-Division. In late 1936 the regiment became part of the newly formed 28.Infanterie-Division. With this division it participated in the invasion of Poland that took place in September 1939. In May 1940 it participated in the invasion of France by crossing the border with Belgium and pushed through to Lille, France. 
In June 1941 the division and her units participated in the invasion of Russia and fought in areas like Smolensk and Moskau. In December 1941 Infanterie Regiment 7 switched divisions and became part of the 252.Infanterie-Division. It still operated in Russia in areas like Gshatsk, Newel, Orscha, Witebsk. 
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype. 

Interesting is the 'DEUTSCHES REICHSHEER' that was stamped on the back of the tag, but was ereased. When the Reichsheer became the Wehrmacht the 'DEUTSCHES REICHSHEER' marking on the back of the erkennungsmarke was dropped. However, it was decided that the stocks of zinc erkennungsmarken should be used up.
