Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 6.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 248. This regiment was formed i December 1939 and was part of the 88.Infanterie-Division. With this division the regiment saw it's first combat during the invasion of France in the second half of May. After the western campaign the division and her units were on leave until February 1941 and was then moved to the South of France were it operated as a coastal defence division.
In December 1941 the division moved to the eastern front and operated in areas like Charkow, Kursk, Woronesh, Sumy and more. In 1943 the II.Bataillon (5.-8.Kompanie) was disbanned. Later that year the II.Bataillon Grenadier Regiment 246 was used to form a new II.Bataillon Grenadier Regiment 248.
