Nice worn dog tag in excellent condition from a soldier who served in the 5.batterie Artillerie Regiment 50.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. The II.Abteilung (4-6.Batterie) Artillerie Regiment 50 was formed in October 1935 in Leipzig. The 5 and 6.batterie were equipped with 15cm schwere Feldhaubitze.
During the invasion of Poland the II.Abteilung was part of the IV.Armeekorps. During the first 2 days of the invasion of France the unit was part of the 4.Panzer-Division.
In the summer of 1940 the II.Abteilung was used to form the III.Abteilung Artillerie Regiment 102 which was part of the 9.Panzer-Division.
In December 1941 the regiment was renamed into Panzer-Artillerie-Regiment 102. It fought on the eastern front for a couple of year before it moved to France to get back on strenght.
In late 1944/early 1945 it fought in the Ardennes.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag (one added by the soldier himself) stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
This tag is published in the book 'Deutsche Erkennungsmarken' by Jean Höidal (page 90).
