Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 5.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 253. This regiment was formed in October 1939 and was part of the 34.Infanterie-Division. It was put into action during the invasion of France that took place in May 1940.
In June 1941 it participated in the invasion of Russia and operated in areas like Smolensk, Gomel, Moskau, Juchnow and Tscherkassy. In October 1942 the regiment was renamed into Grenadier Regiment 253.
In June 1944 the division and her unit were moved to the Italian coast and fought in August against the Americans in the area of Col-de-Ferro, Grimaldi, Ventimiglia and San Remo. In April 1945 the division was captured by the Americans south of Como.
The 4x 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
