Nice aluminium MG Kompanie related dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' in used, but very good condition.
The tag shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 4.(M.G.)Kompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 169. This bataillon was formed in August 1939 and was part of Division 163. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 169 . which was part of the 68.Infanterie-Division.
The division (and her units) saw combat during the invasion of Poland, Luxembourg and then France. In June 1941 it participated in the invasion of Russia and fought in areas of Tscherkassy, Isjum, Schitomir and Beskiden.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
