Very nice Schwere MG.Bataillon 47 erkennungsmarke in worn, but good condition.
The dog tag shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in 4.Kompanie M.G. (Schwere) Bataillon 47. The bataillon was formed in 1938 and were equipped with 2cm Flak guns. In 1939 the 4th Kompanie became the 4.Kompanie Panzerabwehr-Abteilung 4 which was part of the 4.Infanterie-Division. It participated in the invasion of Belgium and France (Somme area). In early 1940 it was renamed into Panzerjäger Abteilung 4 and was part of 14.Panzer-Division since the summer of 1940. In April 1941 it fought in Jugoslawien and later in areas like Cholm, Mius, Rostow, Charkov. Since September 1942 it fought in the Stalingrad area were it was destroyed in the 'Kessel von Stalingrad' in Januari 1943.
Remains of the division that were not in Stalingrad were used, plus new troops, to rebuild the division. This happened in France. Once on strength it was moved to the eastern front again and fought in areas like Tscherkassy and Kurland.
