The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted within the 4. (schwere) batterie Artillerie Ersatz Abteilung 173. This abteilung was formed in September 1938 in Amberg with 4 batteries of which the 4.batterie was a heavy one. This abteilung trained and supplied soldiers for Heeres Küstenartillerie Abteilung 823 and Artillerie Regiments 173,271 and z.B.V. 1016
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
