The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 4.(M.G.) Ersatz Kompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 313. This unit was formed in late August 1939 in Heidelberg. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 313 which was part of the 246.Infanterie-Division. The division and her units saw it's combat during the invasion of France and after this campaign it went on leave until February 1942 when went to Russia and operated in different areas such as Rshew, Jelnja and Smolensk.
The Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 313 was renamed Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 313 in November 1942
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
