Very nice aluminium dog tag in used, but excellent condition.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 4.Kompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 188. It was formed in August 1939 in Guben. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 188. This regiment was part of the 68.Infanterie-Division and saw it's first combat during the invasion of Poland and then France. In June 1941 it participated in the invasion of Russia. It fought in areas like Tscherkassy, Isjum, Shitomir and Beskiden.
In September 1942 the regiment was renamed into Grenadier Ersatz Regiment 188.
The tag is nicely marked 'BL.GR. O' on both parts of the tag which stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
