Very nice Wehrmacht infanterie related tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 4.Kompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 24. This unit was formed in late August 1939 in Braunsberg. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 24 which was part of the 21.Infanterie-Division. This division was put into action during the invasion of Poland in SEptember 1939. After Poland it participated in the invasion of France in May 1940 and then saw action in Russia in areas like Ladoga, Volkhow, Pleskau and later Riga and Ostpreußen.
In October 1942 the ersatz bataillon became Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 24 and in April 1944 it was used to form Ersatz und Ausbildungs Bataillon (m) 271. The '(m)' stands for Magenkranken.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
