Very nice Eisernes Kreuz 2.Klasse award document of a soldier who served within Pionier Bataillon 256.
The overall condition of the document is very good. The Eisernes Kreuz 2.Klasse was awarded on the 13th of August 1942 to Gefreiten Fritz Eibisch who served in the 3.Kompanie Pionier Bataillon 256. This bataillon was part of the 256.Infanterie-Division. It started the war in Belgium and after that in France (Bretagne). Here it stayed till March 1941 before it moved to Poland.
In June 1941 the division participated in operation Barbarossa in the Bialystok area. The rest of the war it fought in Newel, Rshew, Smolensk and Witebsk during the Russian Summer Offensive of 1944.
In Juli the division and its units where disbanned and the 1.Kompanie Pionier Bataillon 256 was used to form Pionier Bataillon 195. The unit became part of the Korps-Abteilung H and fought in Litauen/Kurland.
