Nice worn dog tag from a soldier who served in the 3.Kompanie Feldersatz Bataillon 16.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the '3.Kompanie Feldersatz Bataillon 16'. This bataillon was formed in the summer of 1939 as part of the 16.Infanterie-Division (Windhund). In Januari 1940 it was used to form the II.Bataillon Infanterie Regiment 362. This regiment was part of the 196.Infanterie-Division. This division, and its units, where mainly equipped with Gebirgsjager equipment. It fought most of the war in Norway.
Feldersatz Bataillon 16 was reformed twice after this. One time in March 1941 and in May 1943. both times as part of the 16.Panzer-Divison (Windhund). In December 1944 the bataillon was used to form I./Panzer-Feldersatz-Regiment 63 which was part of the 16.Panzer-Division. It saw action in the Baranow-Brückenkopf and in 1945 in Schlesien.
The 'A' on the tag stands for the bloodtype of the soldier.
