The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the 3.Schützen Kompanie Feld Ersatz Bataillon 33. This unit was formed in late August 1939 and was part of the 33.Infanterie-Division. In November 1939 the bataillon was used to form the II.Bataillon Sicherungs Regiment 2.
In April 1941 a new Feld Ersatz Bataillon 33 was formed which became part of the 15.Panzer-Division in May of that year. This division and her units moved to Afrika in May 1941 and fought in Tobruk and later in other areas. It was destroyed in Tunis in May 1943. Rebuild in June 1943 in Italy with 4 kompanies and part of the 15.Panzer-Grenadier-Division.
The tag comes with its original neckcord.
