Very nice Wehrmacht Pionier related tag in used, but good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 3.Kompanie Pionier Bataillon 666. This unit was formed in late August 1939 in Porz-Westhoven. In the Spring of 1940 the bataillon became part of the 34.Infanterie-Division. With this division it saw its first action during the invasion of Luxmburg and France.
In 1941 the bataillon also participated in the Balkanfeldzug.
From the beginning of the invasion of Russia in June 1941 the bataillon was part of the 1.Panzerarmee and operated in the Caucasus. In November 1944 it was used to formed the II.Bataillon Heeres Pionier Brigade 52. It operated in Hungary as part of the 6.Armee.
