The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 3.Kompanie Pionier Bataillon 193. This unit was formed in mid September 1939 near Jüterborg. It was part of the 93.Infanterie-Division. With this division it saw its first combat during the invasion of France. It stayed in France as an occupation force unit late June 1941 and was then transported to the east to fight in Russia. It saw combat in the areas like Leningrad, Wolchow, Cholm and Pleskau. Later it operated in Latvia and Kurland.
The 'AB' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
