Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht infanterie related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 3.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 257. This regiment was formed in December 1939 and was part of the 83.Infanterie-Division. It was equipped with Czech material/weapons. The division and her units were put into action during the invasion of France. From August 1940 to February the division was on leave. It was operational again in August 1941 and had costal defence as task in Cherbourg.
In December 1941 the division moved east to participate in the fighting in Russia. It fought in areas like Welish, Newel, Ostrow and then Lettland and Kurland. Grenadier Regiment 257 was destroyed in February 1945.
