Very nice zinc Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or "Erknnungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was draften in the 3.kompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 317. The bataillon was formed in September 1939 in Köln. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 317 which was part of the 211.Infanterie-Division. This division was also known as Sperrgruppe Eckhardt. It saw combat during the invasion of Belgium and France. In 1942 it moved to Brjansk and after that it saw combat in Demjansk, Newel, Witebsk and Narew.
In November 1944 the division was renamed into 211.Volks-Grenadier-Division and saw combat in Hungary. In May 1945 parts of the division surrendered to the Russians and other parts to the Americans.
The 'B' on both parts of the tag stands for the bloodtype of the soldier.
