Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht infanterie related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 3.Kompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 29. This unit was formed in late August 1939 in Guben. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 29 which was part of the 3.Infanterie-Division. This division (and her units) saw its first combat during the invasion of Poland. After Poland it moved the the West and in May 1940 it participated in the invasion of France. In the summer of 1941 it participated in the invasion of Russia and fought in areas like Demjansk, Moskau, Orscha and Stalingrad where it got destroyed in January 1943. Reformed in March 1943 and put into action in Northern Italy and later in France and Belgium (Ardennes).
