Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 3.Kompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 21. This bataillon was formed in late august 1939 in Fürth. It trained and supplied soldier for Infanterie Regiment 21 which was part of the 17.Infanterie-Division.
This division and her units saw their first combat during the invasion of Poland in September 1939. After Poland it was put into action during the invasion of France by crossing Luxemburg. In June 1941 they participated in the invasion of Russia in fought in areas like Bialystok, Gomel, Juchnow, Gshatsk, Nikopol and later Radom and Görlitz.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
