The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 3.Kompanie Gebirgsjäger Sanitäts Ersatz Abteilung 18. This abteilung was formed in late August 1939 in Salzburg. In this unit soldiers where trained for different Gebirgsjäger units such as Gebirgsjäger Regiment 137. In July 1943 the abteilung was renamed into Gebirgs Sanitäts Ersatz und Ausbildungs Abteilung 18.
The 'A'B on both sides of the tag stands for the bloodtype of the soldier.
