The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 3.Kompanie Flieger Ausbildungs Regiment 42. This regiment was formed in in October 1936 as Flieger Ersatz Abteilung 42. In April 1939 it became th (I.Abteilung) Flieger Ausbildungs Regiment 42. It consisted out of the Stab, I.Abteilung and Flugzeugführerschule (Pilot training school)
In August 1942 the regiment was renamed into Flieger Regiment 42 and in November of that year it was used to form the 8.Luftwaffen-Feld-Division and was put into action in Russia were it sufferred heavy losses in the Taganrog area. Remains of the division were absorbed by the 15.Luftwaffen-Feld-Division in March 1943.
The 'O' on both sides of the tag on the back are the soldier's bloodtype.
