Nice aluminium 3.Batterie Artillerie Regiment 16 dog tag in used, but good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the 3.batterie Artillerie Regiment 16. This regiment was formed in October 1934 as Artillere Regiment Münster. In October 1935 the regiment was renamed into Artillerie Regiment 16. It was part of the 16.Infanterie-Division (Der Windhund). With this division the regiment saw its first combat during the invasion of France in May 1940. And in August of that same year the regiment became motorized and the division was renamed into the 16.Panzer-Division. It stayed in France until April 1941. In June 1941 it saw combat on the eastern front in areas like Kiev, Kursk, Don, Rostow.
In July 1942 the regiment was renamed into Panzer Artillerie Regiment 16.
The 'O' on the bottom part of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
