Nice worn dog tag from a soldier who served in the 2.Kompanie Panzer Regiment 15 erkennungsmarke.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. The regiment was formed in 1937 in Sagan with 6 kompanies. It was equipped with panzer 1's and 2's.
After the Tjech annexation they got the Panzer 38t. During the invasion of the Low countries and France the regiment fought its way through the South of Belgium to Brest (France). In early 1941 the regiment was moved to East Poland and in June it participated in Operation Barbarossa as the 'Spitzengruppe' of 1.Panzerarmee. It fought for Kiew and attacked Moskau in Oktober 1941. After Moskau it fought in the Gshatsk area were it servered heavy losses and was in the need of new troops and equipment. In the summer of 1942 it fought in the Don area during the summer offensive and later in Februari 1943 in Charkow.
In June 1943 the regiment was brought up to strength again. The I.Abteilung, who was in training for the new Panther tank came back in Oktober. Equipped with the new Panzer V or 'Panther' tank. At that moment the regiment was stationed/fought in the Belgorod area and later Tscherkassy. In early 1944 the regiment was being refreshed again and this time in France. It was stationed in Bordeaux. During the invasion of the Allies in Southern-France the regiment fought in the Rhonetal and fought its way back to Belfort. From there it moved to Germany and in January 1945 is was in Trier. Later it crossed the Rhine river near Remagen.
