The document shows overall signs of wear, but is solid. The Assault Badge was awarded on 31 July 1941 to Karl who served in the 2.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 497. The regiment was formed in August 1939 and was part of the 267.Infanterie-Division. It saw its first action during the invasion of Belgium and after that France. In Mai 1941 the division and its unit moved to Poland to prepare for the invasion of Russia which took plane on the 22th of June 1941. In Russia it saw combat in areas like Brest-Litowsk, Bialystok, Gshatsk, Spass-Demensk. In Mai 1942 the regiment was divided under the unit of the division.
