The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the '2.Batterie Schwere Artillerie Ersatz Abteilung motorisiert 59'. This regiment was formed in August 1939 in Brandenburg. Batterie 1 - 3 where stationed in Frankfurt. The unit trained and supplied soldiers for 3 different Heeres-Küstenartillerie-Abteilung, lots of Artillerie Abteilungen and 4 Artillerie Regiments. In October 1941 the 2.Batterie was used to form the Artillerie Lehr Regiment 2. A new batterie was formed and later the abteilung was split into an Ersatz and an Ausbildungs unit.
The 'BL.A' stands for the (Blutgruppe) bloodtype of the soldier.
