Very nice aluminium Schwere Artillerie Abteilung 445 dog tag in used, but good condition.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the '2.Batterie Artillerie Abteilung 445'. This unit was formed in August 1939 with 1 le.F.H.18 batterie and 2 heavy ones. It saw its first action during the invasion of Poland. It fell under the command of the 1.Gebirgsdivision. In Februari of 1940 it was moved to the west. Here it was fully equipped with le.F.H.18 guns and was put into action in May 1940 to conquer Maastricht and from there push into Belgium. Also participated in the battle of Dunkirk.
In June 1940 it also fought in France in the Somme area. It stayed in France for some time and was again put into action during Operation Barbarossa. It fought the rest of the war in Russia. By the end of the war it fought in the Kurland-pocket. It surrendered to the British.
