Very nice aluminium Leichte Artillerie Ersatz Abteilung 28 dog tag in used, but good condition.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the '2.Batterie Leichte Artillerie Ersatz Abteilung 28'. This abteilung was formed in 1939 in Schweidnitz with 2 light batteries. In Januari 1941 the abteilung was moved to St.Avold. In October 1942 the unit was split into a Ersatz Abteilung 28 and Reserve Artillerie Abteilung 28. The Ersatz unit was moved to France and was stationed in Metz. Later the Reserve Artillerie.Abteilung.28 was split into a Reserve Artillerie Abteilung 28 and a Artillerie Abteilung 28(B). The Reserve unit became part of the 189.Reserve-Division and was stationed in mid-France. Later that year the Reserve Abteilung 28 became Artillerie Regiment 278 which was formed in Januari 1944 in Italy and was part of the 278.Infanterie-Division.
The Artillerie Abteilung 28(B) became part 338.Infanterie-Division and fought in the Rhonedelta and the Vogesen.
