Very nice aluminium Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 49 dog tag in used, but good condition.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 2.Kompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 49. It was formed in August 1939 in Breslau. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 49 which was part of the 28.Infanterie-Division. This division and her units saw their first combat during the invasion of Poland. After that it fought in France and from June 1941 it was put into action during the invasion of Russia.
In the summer of 1942 the ersatz bataillon became Jäger Ersatz Bataillon 49.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
