The tag shows normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served/was drafted in the 3.Kompanie Ersatz Bataillon Infanterie Regiment 33. This regiment was formed in Ocotber 1935 and was part of 13.Infanterie-Division. From October 1937 the regiment became a motorized unit.
It saw its first combat on the 3rd of September 1939 during the invasion of Poland. In November 1939 the I.Bataillon of the regiment (1-4.Kompanie) was used to form the III.Bataillon Schützen Regiment 2  and became part of the 2.Panzer-Division. With this division it saw combat during the invasion of Luxembourg and France. In April 1941 it moved to Greece and participated in the 'Balkanfeldzug'. From October 1941 the division and her units saw combat on the eastern front in areas like (West of) Moskau, Rshew, Smolensk, Orel and Gomel.
In January 1944 the division (and her units) moved to France to rest and rebuild. When the Allies landed in Normandy the division took part in the fighting and fought in the St.Lo area and Argentan. Schützen Regiment 2 was destroyed in Normandy in August.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
