The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who wsa drafted in the 2.Kompanie Bau Ersatz Abteilung 8. This abteilung was formed in late August 1939. It trained and supplied soldiers for a lot of different units such as Festungs-Pionier units, Strassen Bau Bataillon and Bau Bataillons. In Mai 1942 the ersatz bataillon was disbannend.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
