Very nice edelstahl Fallschirmjäger related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier that served in 2.Kompanie Fallschirmjäger Aufklarungs Abteilung 12. The abteilung fell under the command of the II.Fallschirm-Korps and was formed in January 1944. The commander of the 2nd companie was Leutnant Runge. On paper the 2rd company of the abteilung should have been equipped with Schützenpanzerwagens (Halftracks), dozens of MG's, 2x 81mm mortars, FG42, STG's and other weapons, but by May 1944 only a part of this had reached the company.
During the Normandy invasion the unit saw heavy combat in the St.Lo area and later in the Falaise pocket where it got surrounded, but was rescued by the II.SS-Panzer-Korps. It was then moved to Kleve (Germany) to strengthen and saw combat again during Operation Market Garden in the Groesbeek area.
The 'T' on both parts of the tag means he was vaccinated against Tetanus.
Very interesting tag.
