Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht Infanteriegeschütz related tag in used, but excellent conditon.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the 15.Infanteriegeschütz Kompanie Ergänzungs Bataillon Infanterie Regiment 2. This regiment goes back all the way to the beginning of the Reichswehr that was formed in 1921. It was named the 2.(Preuß) Infanterie Regiment. The Ergänzungs Bataillon of the regiment was formed in the Autumn of 1936.
Infanterie Regiment 2 was part of the 11.Infanterie-Division. This division operated in Poland in September 1939. After Poland it moved to the west and in May 1940 participated in the invasion of France were it stayed until it moved to the east in June 1941 to participated in the invasion of Russia. It mainly operated in the Wolchow - Ladoga area. Later in the war it moved to Pleskau, Narwa and finally Kurland.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
