Very nice zinc Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 14.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 166. This regiment was formed in December 1939 and was part of the 82.Infanterie-Divison. It saw its first combat during the invasion of France in May 1940. After the France campaign the division and her unit on leave until the end of February 1941. In March of that year the division was send to the Netherlands to serve as an occupation force.
At the beginning of the summer of 1942 the division and her units where send off to fight on the Russian front, in the South. It fought in areas like Belgorod, Kursk, Woronesch, Sumy and Kiev. In October 1942 the regiment was renamed into Grenadier Regiment 166. After heavy fighting in the Hube-Kessel near the area of Podolsk the regiment was releaved and the remnants were used to form Regiments-Gruppe 166.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
