The overall condition of the dogtag is good. Its a well preserved grounddug. The number 53447 tell us the soldier served in the 13.Kompanie Fallschirmjäger Regiment 16. This regiment was formed in April 1944 and saw its first action during the Allied invasion of Normandy. By the end of the month the regiment was send to the eastern front to fight against the Russian in Lithuania as part of 'Kampfgruppe Schirmer'. They were destroyed.
In October 1944 the regiment was rebuild in Germany (Kleve). In November they where deployed in the Angeren - Opheusden area (Holland). In December the regiment was moved to the new defense positions in Waal-Bogen and later along the 'Maas' river and Hollandsch-Diep. Here they fought untill February 1945 before they moved to the Reichswald. Here and along the German/Dutch border they fought fiercely for the rest of the war. In May 1945 they were captured by the British in the Amersfoort - Nijkerk - Putten linie.
Interesting dogtag.
