The document shows overall signs of wear. It has a couple of repairs on the back. The document says that Feldwebel Ernst Giebeler, who served in the 12.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 580, was promoted to Oberfeldwebel as of 1 May 1942.
Infanterie Regiment 580 was formed in October 1940 and part of the 306.Infanterie-Division. In April 1941 the regiment moved to the Belgium coast as a coastal defence force. In November the division moved to the east to fight against the Russians.
