Very nice aluminium dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' in very good condition from a soldier who served in the 11.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 236.
The dog tag shows normal signs of wear. The regiment was formed in August 1939 as part of 69.Infanterie-Division. The division and her units saw the first combat in Norway in the Spring of 1940. It stayed in Norway until late November 1941 when the division was transported to Russia. It was put into action in areas like Wolchow, Leningrad and Newel.
In October 1942 the regiment was renamed into Grenadier Regiment 236. In November 1943 the III.Bataillon (9-12 kp.) of the regiment. was used to form the I.Bataillon Grenadier Regiment 157. It was still part of the 69.Infanterie-Division. It saw action in areas like Newel, Ostow, Litauen, Memel and Ostpreussen. Captured by the Russians in April 1945 in Konigsberg.
