Nice zinc Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the 11.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 50. This regiment was formed in October 1935 and was part of the 3.Infanterie-Division. This division was put into action during the invasion of Poland in September 1939. After Poland it moved to the west and in May 1940 participated in the invasion of France. In June 1941 it operated in Russia were it fought in areas like Demjansk, Moskau, Gshatsk.
In Octobr 1942 th regiment was renamed into Grenadier Regiment 50 and at the same time switched division to 111.Infanterie-Divison. It operated in the areas of Rostow, Taganrog, Nikopol and the Krim.
Interesting is the 'DEUTSCHES REICHSHEER' that was stamped on the back of the tag. When the Reichsheer became the Wehrmacht the 'DEUTSCHES REICHSHEER' marking on the back of the erkennungsmarke was dropped. However, it was decided that the stocks of zinc erkennungsmarken should be used first.
The 'O' on the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype
