The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. Both halfs are still attached to eachother for 25%. It's still pretty solid. It belonged to a soldier who served in the 11.Kompanie III.Abteilung Kraftwagen Transport Regiment 616. This regiment was formed in late August 1939 and part of the 12.Armee. In 1940 it was part of the 6.Armee which participated in the invasion of France. Later that same year the regiment was part of the 2.Armee which operated in the Balkans. In 1941 it fell under the command of the 1.Panzerarmee which operated on the eastern front.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
