Very nice and rare Luftwaffe Kampfgeschwader 54 (aka Totenkopf) erkennungsmarke in very good condition.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows signs of wear. The IV.(Ergänzung)Gruppe was formed in Juli 1940. The 10./Kampfgeschwader 54 was formed in October 1940. And later the 11th and 12th where formed. The IV.Gruppe was equipped with the Heinkel He 111P and the Junkers JU 88A. In March 1942 the IV.Gruppe was based in the South of Italy, Tarent. Besides providing training, it also got the task to fly reconnaissance missions over the Mediterranean and air raided the island of Malta. The same period it also flew missions to North Afrika. Later in the war Kampfgeschwader 54 was involved in the Normandy campaign. In October 1944 the IV.Gruppe was used to form the II./KG(J) 54. The 'J' stands for Jagd. The 10./Kampfgeschwader 54 became the 4./KG(J)54. They where equipped with the Me262 jet fighter.
Interesting and hard to find dog tag.
