Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht infanterie related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the 10.gemischte Schützen Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 344. This regiment was formed in late August 1939 by the Landwehr-Kommandeur and was part of the 223.Infanterie-Division. It saw its first combat during the invasion of France that took place in May 1940. After the defeat of France the division and her units stayed in France until it moved east in June 1941 to participated in the invasion of Russia. It operated in the area of Leningrad were it stayed until April 1943. After that it fought in the areas of Welikije-Luki, Charkow and Kiev.
In October 1942 the regiment was renamed into Grenadier Regiment 344. It was disbanned in November 1943.
The 'B' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
