The document shows overall signs of wear. Folded twice but its solid. The Infanterie Sturmabzeicehn was awarded on 19 July 1940. Wilhelm served in the 1.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 70. This regiment was formed in Ocotber 1936 and was part of the 36.Infanterie-Division. With this division the regiment saw combat during the invasion Luxemburg and France (where Wilhelm earned the ISA). In October 1940 the division and its units moved back to Germany to prepare for the invasion of Russia. In November of that year the regiment became part of the 111.Infanterie-Division. At the start of Operation Barbarossa the division crossed the border at Dubno, then to Shitomir and Kiew. In June 1942 the division participated in the battles in the Kaukasus, Rostow,Taganrog,Nikopol and the Krim in March 1944. In May 1944 the division was destroyed in Sewastopol.
