Nice worn dog tag from a soldier who served in the 1.Kompanie Bau-Bataillon 22.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. Bau Bataillon 22 was formed from RAD members in August 1939. During the invasion of France the bataillon was put into action as part of Heeresgruppe C. During the invasion of Russia the bataillon was linked to the 3.Panzerarmee which was part of Heeresgruppe Mitte. During Operation Taifun, to capture Moskau, the bataillon was part of the 9.Armee.
In early 1942 the bataillon was fitted with Prisoners of War (Kriegsgefangenen) and renamed into Kriegsgefangenen-Bataillon 22 (or Bau-Bataillon (K) 22).
In June 1944 the bataillon was destroyed and disbanned.
Nice tag of a unit that saw plenty of frontline action.
