Very nice Wehrmacht Gebirgsjager related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the 1.Stammkompanie I.Bataillon Gebirgsjäger Ersatz Regiment 137. This regiment was formed in February 1941 in Salzburg. In October 1943 the replacement regiment remained in Salzburg, under Division 418 and it was now subordinate to the Gebirgsjäger Ersatz Batallion I., II. 136 and Gebirgsjäger Ersatz Bataillon I., II. 137.
The 'B' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
A Stammkompanie was a unit that trained the soldiers. (Often the soldiers of this kompanie were soldiers who had frontline experience, but no longer were fully usable at the front due to injuries or had a lot of combat experience that was used to train others). Of course this changed later in the war as there was a shortage of (front)soldiers.
