Very nice aluminium Jagdgschwder 26 related tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 1.Staffel I.Gruppe Jagdgeschwader 26. This I.Gruppe was formed in May 1939 by taken over Jagdgeschwader 132. It was equipped with the Messerschmitt Bf109. In May 1940 it participated in the invasion of the low countries and flew missions above the Netherlands and Belgium. On the 15th of May the base of the unit was Eindhoven (airport) and a week later it moved to Antwerp to fly missions over the Dunkirk area and later it flew other missions in France.
After the win over France the I.Gruppe fell under the command of Jagdgeschwader 51 and flew missions over England.
In 1941 the Gruppe was stationed in the Brest (France) area to continu to fly missions of the channel. It operated in France untill Janaury 1943 and then moved to the east. At this point the Gruppe was equipped with the Focke-Wulf 190. It operated in Russia untill may 1943 and then moved to Woensdrecht, Holland. Later that year it moved to France again.
In June 1944 it participated in the Normandy campaign and later, in December, it participated in the Ardennes Offensive.
The 'O' on boh parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
